Weekly Update – from Club Captain Phil Barlow

We are about to enter the start of the 2 tee start times this weekend which means it gets a bit harder to get a slot on a Saturday, particularly with more members vying for them. If you are unable to get a tee time for a Saturday and that is your main playing day, please let the Pro Shop know so they can organize one for you the following week. If we get enough over-runs from Saturdays, we will again look at putting aside some Sunday slots for those people to ensure they get a weekend game. Also, as per last year, if you are playing mid-week, and are happy not to play every Saturday, it would be appreciated by those who have no choice but to play on the weekend.

Please be aware of how tight the tee times are relevant to completion time with the sunlight hours in winter. Remember that if you hit a ball into the rough, play a provisional and only take 3 minutes to look for the original one. Any longer and the field behind you gets held up.

A big thanks to Wayne Coleman for donating and installing the floor to ceiling mirror in the rear door of the Pro Shop. Now we will get a real close-up of the new golf clothing lines coming into the shop as we try them on.

Interclub 2022 – Men

Another reminder that senior interclub golf starts up in a few weeks, so we have put a sign up in the Pro Shop for men who may wish to have a go at playing. We have had a little trouble filling the 3 teams as of late, so if you are on a handicap less than about 10 and want to play on different courses around Christchurch and like a bit of competition, just put your name down and we will be in touch for trials and practice rounds prior to the competition starting.

Results for last Saturday – Shotgun Stableford

Fantastic weather, albeit a bit cool, once again greeted us all on Saturday for the Queen’s birthday shotgun tournament. The atmosphere for the day was jovial and that was reflected by the large group that gathered for the post round prizegiving. Thanks to you all for making the effort to congratulate and support those who won prizes on the day. Fast and true greens once again kept everyone honest, so well done to the greens staff.

This Saturday is Monthly Medal for men off the white tees and LGU Rnd 5, Putting, Harewood Cup Rnd 3, Qual Williamson & Thompson trophies for the women.

Pro Tip by Undercover Pro

Remember the old saying “Drive for show and putt for dough”?

With the greens being a little faster last Saturday, there would have been a lot of 3 (or more) putts happening. A key thought in your mind should be the weight of your putt. For a good 2 putt, you want to lag your ball close to the hole, not 8 feet past.

Practice controlling the weight (speed) of your putt on the warmup green prior to playing your round, and don’t just fall in love with the line.

Rule of the week (Conduct Expected of All Players – Rule 1.2a)

This week’s rule is more about etiquette than a hard rule. However it is the core of our game and is sometimes not embraced.

All players are expected to play in the spirit of the game by:

• Acting with integrity – for example, by following the Rules, applying all penalties, and being honest in all aspects of play.
• Showing consideration to others – for example, by playing at a prompt pace, looking out for the safety of others, and not distracting the play of another player.
• Taking good care of the course – for example, by replacing divots, smoothing bunkers, repairing ball-marks, and not causing unnecessary damage to the course.

There is no penalty under the Rules for failing to act in this way, except that the Committee may disqualify a player for acting contrary to the spirit of the game if it finds that the player has committed serious misconduct.

9 July – Men: BCHP semi-final, others 4BBB Stableford. Women: Bisque Par.

16 July – Club breakfast multi-tee start at 11:00am. Stableford. Bells Mugs for the men. Normal Saturday entry fee.

9 Hole Ladies Results – from Lisa Neho-Smith

?It was beautiful weather for the fourth round of the Lucy Tan trophy and putting cup. Valarie Hampton won with 34 Net, second was Sylvia Strong with 36 Net. Sylvia was also the winner of this putting round with 14 putts.

Midweek Mens Results – from John Yates

With Monday being Queen's Birthday holiday, the men and women combined to play on Tuesday for the Nancy Raymond Trophy based on combined stableford scores off the yellow tees. There were 22 pairs with the best being:

2nd - Lynn Brand & Matt Ryder 68

3rd - Sue Polson & Dennis Morgan 68

4th - Karen Munro & Brian Blazey 66

Q & A with Colin – Greens Superintendent

Q: Colin when we take a divot on a tee are we supposed to repair it, like put the divot back or fill it with sand?

A: No leave it as is and the greens staff will repair it when they shift the tee blocks.
