Weekly Update – from Club Captain Phil Barlow
Winter golf was the order of the day for players last Saturday. Greeted by an overcast, cool day that gave a dousing of rain at the end, the field was healthy though not full. That certainly did not stop some very good scoring for the day.
Canterbury interclub golf starts this weekend with Woodward Cup, Blank Cup, Simon Cup for the men and Pollock Cup for the women all underway. It would be great to have some support for these teams as they start their season, so check out the Canterbury Golf Interclub web pages to see the various draws for the year. Good luck and play well to you all.
This weekend is the first of 3 consecutive weekends where men are vying for Club Champs finals spots. 2 of the 3 weekends must be selected as part of qualifying.
NOTE: This is stroke-play for qualifying so all shots count, and you must putt out!
Also note that while the men’s Club Champs are in play, both qualifying and finals, no scores from any of the men’s Saturday golf will count for shootout. This is stated in the 2022 Programme booklet along with other competition rules. If you don’t have one, the Pro Shop has some available.
Last Saturday the men had Monthly Medal off the white tees and the women had a Nett round.

Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell
For the next 2 months, play the same type of golf ball when you play on the course, and if you are practising your putting and chipping around the putting green, this will really help because there are big differences between all golf balls.
So, if you’re out playing and you lose one, don’t just pull a random ball out of your bag make it the same type of ball.
If you’re unsure what ball is best for you, see me or the team in the golf shop for advice.
Rule of the week (Sharing of clubs – Rule 4.1 b (2))
No Sharing of Clubs. A player is limited to those clubs he or she started with or added as allowed in (1):
- The player must not make a stroke with a club being used by anyone else who is playing on the course (even if the other player is playing in a different group or competition).
- When the player becomes aware that he or she has breached this Rule by making a stroke with another player’s club, the player must immediately take that club out of play, using the procedure in Rule 4.1c(1)

Thursday 4 Aug ‘Nomination’ Par
Three days on from Monday and the last 2 days have dried the course out quite a bit thanks to a couple of great days and Nor’West winds. A cooler start with a dew on the ground which quickly disappeared. 33 today for the ‘Nomination’ Par game, our first attempt which unlike Bisque Par, requires players to nominate their stokes per hole prior to hitting from the tee! Interesting. Some good results.

Pollock Cup 2022 – from Lynley Gainsford
Pollock Cup for 2022 is about to get under way and Harewood is pleased to once again put in a good team.
The squad this year consists of:
Catherine Knight, Sally Rossiter, Lynda Brown, Lynn Brand, Jo McNicholl, Debbie Scott Kirsty O’Neill, Julie Jones, Pam McTaggart and Kathryn Maloney.
Exciting this year to have a number of our more experienced players and new players to add to the team dynamics.
Our first game is against Waitikiri at Avondale on Sunday 7 August. The girls are all ready and looking forward to the competition. We have spoken to the weather gods and looking to a fine day to get us all under way.
If you see the girls’ around be sure to offer your support and encouragement.
Let’s Go Team Harewood.
