Weekly Update – Club Captain Phil Barlow
What a great day for us all to experience on closing day for the Shotgun competitions. A gentle breeze with real summer conditions and heat. The course was in fantastic condition and there were some great scores posted as expected with those conditions. A big thanks to all who volunteered their time and helped make the day memorable – you know who you are. It takes a good team effort to pull it all together. We had over 150 on the course for the day which moved along quite nicely.
I would like to thank on behalf of players, all of you who have volunteered your time over the year to help beautify our course, run raffles, collect range balls, paint buildings, waterblast, fix broken things and all of the other things that have helped out the course staff and made Harewood GC a better place because of those efforts. I would also like to thank, on your behalf, our green’s staff for giving us a great course for the year and office staff for keeping everything ticking over.
Golf’s Longest Day
We have a couple of our better-known players in Matt McLean and Scott Manyweathers taking part in the annual Cancer Charity Longest Day. They will play at least 72 holes (4 rounds) of golf and hope to make it to 100 holes at Harewood course on Thursday 22 December. If you wish to help this deserving cause, Scott’s donation page is https://longestday.org.nz/scott-manyweathers and Matt’s is https://longestday.org.nz/matthew-mclean. All and any donations are gratefully accepted by the guys and cause. As some background, they are both our most recent men’s Canterbury rep golfers, with Matt turning Pro this year. You will have seen their names on many trophies and their faces around the club so please help if you can, or even drop in on them and walk a few holes.

Thank you to all the members that attended the Working Bees this year.
Your time and effort is very much appreciated and definitely helps to keep our course & gardens looking tidy.
Many Thanks. Merry Christmas.
Club Life - From the GM
Next week we say goodbye to Andrew in the pro shop, his last day is on Friday 23 December. On half of the club and the staff we would like to wish him well in his new job and we hope to see him out on the course again at some point. Make sure you all pop in and bid him farewell.
As one leaves another arrives. You will see a new face behind the counter from today. Barnaby (Barny) has joined us all the way from the UK. He will be with us until August 2023. He is quickly learning on the job and I am sure you will all welcome him into the club.
Have a great weekend
