Weekly Update – Phil Barlow
Happy New Year to you all and welcome to the Centenary year of Harewood Golf Club. We hope you all rested where possible and had the chance to sneak some golf in over the break in readiness for the 2023 year ahead. The course has had a lot of use over the holiday period but is in great condition.
Centenary Opening Day Shotgun – Feb 4 – All Welcome!
The first Club event flying the flag of our centenary year is the Opening Day Shotgun tournaments. As usual we will be having 8am morning and 12:30pm afternoon competitions. These will both be $20 entry fee with $5 going towards costs for the centenary events that are upcoming.
The afternoon shotgun will have a BBQ dinner post completion and prizegiving at a cost of $20 per person. All members are encouraged to come along even if you play during the week or played in the morning, don’t forget to bring your partners along. We will be asking for bookings for the BBQ ahead of time to help with numbers for catering. There will be a jukebox on during the afternoon to provide some music in the background.
The afternoon field will have a cut-off of 100 players to ensure a prompt round of golf so make sure you get in as soon as places open.
Farewell to Rob Pentecost
Sadly, we lost one of our Saturday afternoon men last weekend. Rob was a frequent player and part of the affectionately known “Coleman group”, with Phillipa often playing with the afternoon ladies on a Saturday. Our thoughts go out to Phillipa and Robs family at this time.
If you would like to go to his funeral, it is on Saturday 21 January (this Saturday) at 10am at Westpark chapel 467 Wairakei Rd. The afternoon club tee day times have been extended to 2PM to allow for Club friends to attend his funeral, then have a round in his honour.
Fundraiser for Scott McKenzie
One of our recently ex-members, Scott McKenzie has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. As we know, this is both a mobility and life shortening disease that attacks the body aggressively. Some of his playing friends here at Harewood have been given permission to run a fundraiser alongside the Saturday golf on March 4. Details are to be confirmed but the ambition is to raise $3000 to give to himself and Heather, his wife, to help them complete a rail trip bucket list item of his before he is unable to do so. This is totally voluntary for players on the day with a proposed entry of $50 as well as supplying something for a prize table. We will also have a donation box on the day for those who wish to donate something. All proceeds will go to Scott for the trip.
Upcoming Saturday golf (for full details refer to the 2023 programme – out soon).

Food and beverage is an important part of any club. As we are heading into a new year we would like to ask that you complete a very quick survey to help us gain some insight in the use of the club and the food and beverage provided.
We would appreciate all your feedback by Friday 27 January to allow us to work alongside G&T Catering in reviewing the food and beverage for the club. Please click onto the link below and I look forward to receiving the feedback for you all.
