Weekly Update – Club Captain Phil Barlow
Last weekend saw the first round of match play for the Harewood 4BBB for both men and women. Congratulations to all the winners. Please see the draws on the noticeboard in the Pro Shop to see who you may be playing next if you are winners. You need to contact the Pro Shop if you can’t play on the scheduled date to make alternative arrangements, however all matches must be played before the next round, and finals must be played on the allocated day.
It was a great weekend for golf all around with little wind and the course still showing its best. We are still seeing some fantastic rounds of golf in the weekly results which is great to see.
Last reminder that entries to the Allprint Shootout will close this Saturday 18 March, so be in to win.

Hickory golf challenge with Christchurch GC
We have been talking to Christchurch Golf Club, who are celebrating their 150th anniversary later this year, about having a Hickory Golf Challenge. With our actual centenary date being later in the year, we thought it a great idea of something different and period appropriate for the celebrations.
Apparently, years ago there used to be a Harewood GC vs Christchurch GC challenge with a cup, so we are going to see what we can find, as we believe Christchurch may hold it. We will look to resurrect it as an interclub challenge of Hickory golf.
If you want to find out more, just Google it or have a look in Wikipedia for it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hickory_golf. The New Zealand Hickory Open was last Sunday with Sir Bob Charles participating along with some Australians a couple of days after an international event hosted by CGC.
We will have more info soon, but if you are interested, let the Pro Shop or Phil Barlow know and we will see if we can get this all going. We will be able to hire hickory clubs, and some of you may even have some hidden away, so dig them out. It is a fun even as opposed to a serious interclub event and is open to both men and women.
Rule of the week (Rule 8.1 a/1 - Examples of Actions That Are Likely to Create Potential Advantage)
Question: I hit my approach onto the fringe, and the ball spun back a few inches. Before my next shot, I tamped down the pitch mark, which was nowhere near my line, but my playing partner called a penalty for tamping. Was this correct?
Answer: Your fix is fine. You can repair a pitch mark as long as doing so doesn’t involve improving your line of play, the area of intended stance or swing, or the position or lie of the ball. Any of those issues would yield a two-stroke penalty in stroke play or loss of hole in match play.
Pro Tip of the week - Craig Mitchell
Use what side of the tee box you tee up on to your advantage.
If you fade the ball tee up on the right-hand side off the tee box this will give you more angle and look better to your eye.
If you draw the ball do the operate tee up on the left-hand side of the tee box once again you’ve got more angle and room to play your draw.

BIG THANK YOU FROM SCOTTY
I couldn't say a lot on the night, so to everyone at Harewood Golf a massive thank you from Heather and myself. Being a member for over 20 years I always knew that we were made up of so many incredible people. I was quite overwhelmed by the generosity of the club, but in hindsight not surprised.
To Harvey and Brian, I can't express enough a big thank you for all your work. I was a bit miffed thinking I was coming to watch Brian play golf at 7am. A good friend but not sure I need to watch him play that much.
I have already started to book my first item, a rail ride from Greymouth to Auckland.
Cheers,
Scott
