Weekly Update – By Phil Barlow
It’s clear the weather has turned towards winter conditions, with mud starting to stick to the ball and the run out on fairways a bit shorter than what they have been through the great summer conditions we had. That being said, the cooler, windy conditions still presented some great scores.
A reminder that moving into these softer conditions that is even more important to take a sand bucket with you so you can fix the divots that you may create or come across. Please also ensure you have a pitch repairer as well, because the greens also need to be looked after.
Congratulations to Glenn Bunting and the Metro B team who took out the championship on Sunday from Avondale 6-2 at McLeans Island GC. I managed to see much of the game, and when I left it was still fairly close, so to see the result so much in our favour was fantastic.
Lastly, I would like to say a massive thanks to Don Robertson for looking after the Saturday raffles for the last few years. We all appreciate your time and effort keeping it all ticking over.
This weekend, the men have Harewood Stableford off the Blue tees, and the women have Combined Stableford.

Pro Tip of the week - Craig Mitchell
Use what side of the tee box you tee up on to your advantage.
If you fade the ball, tee up on the right-hand side off the tee box. This will give you more angle and look better to your eye.
If you draw the ball, do the opposite. Tee up on the left-hand side of the tee box. Once again you’ve got more angle and room to play your draw.
Rule of the week – (Rule 8.1d(1)/1) Examples Where Player Is Allowed to Restore Conditions Altered by the Actions of Another Person or Outside Influence
Examples of when restoration is allowed include when:
- A player's line of play is worsened by a pitch-mark in the general area that was made by a ball played by someone else after the player's ball came to rest.
- A player's lie or area of intended stance or intended swing is worsened when another player's stroke creates a divot or deposits sand, soil, grass, or other material on or around their ball.
- A player's ball in a bunker lies close to another player's ball in the bunker, and that other player's stance or swing in making the stroke worsens one or more of the player's conditions affecting the stroke.
In all such situations, the player is allowed to restore conditions without penalty, but is not required to do so.

Metro B - Harewood beats Avondale in the final - Glenn Bunting
Congratulations to the Harewood metro b team who beat Avondale in the final last weekend.
It was a tough battle over the first nine holes (nerves where to the forefront of some wayward shots) … Harewood took control and ended up taking out the final 6-2 at McLeans island
Harewood qualified 2nd after round robin and after beating Waimairi beach in the semi deserved their spot as favourite going into the final
Some notable mentions, in particular Dave Carroll who started the season off in the number 5 spot and finishing off at the number 3 spot going undefeated all year with a 7-0 record.
Mike Maynard and Chris Straker also had great Seasons with only going down once during the season.
Charlie Su … played some very steady golf and always fought hard and won a couple of key matches on the 18th during the season.
This year’s team consisted of ..
Glenn bunting (captain), Steve Thomas, Hamish Stewart, Kane Boulton, Charlie su, Jordan Wilson, Drew van Boxtel, Paul ONeill, Dan Sullivan, Baden foster, Alan cowie, Chris Straker, Dave Carroll, Mike Maynard, Malcolm Cameron, Tony Carroll, Les keys
Congratulations to the team again … look forward to seeing how you go against Metro A in a couple of weeks.
