Weekly Update – By Phil Barlow
A nice, settled Autumn Day greeted players on Saturday with little wind and a great golf temperature. The last blue tee day greeted the men, and the ladies had a combined Stableford competition. It’s great to get feedback from many of the men that they are enjoying the varying tees we have, though it will be the last longer tee start until get to the other side of winter.
I was lucky enough to play in the mixed mid-week tournament that had a total of just under 60 players on Monday. The clubhouse was busy with a lot of banter and prizes all round for most players after completion, so I would like to thank the organisers from the two midweek committees for both the work to organise the tournament as well as the opportunity to play.
For those that are relatively new to our club and to golf, firstly welcome to Harewood GC, we hope you enjoy our course, facilities and get to know members. Secondly, the first rule of golf is to know the rules of golf! These can be found here at the R and A website, as well as the weekly Woodlands Word column. This weeks ‘rule’ is about filling in scorecards. Please also see the attached image to this weeks Woodlands Word as to what a correctly recorded and corrected scorecard looks like.
- Swap your scorecard with another in your group.
- Please ensure scorecards are filled out correctly and completely using legible numerals, signed by you and your marker, and the correct score boxes are marked with an ‘X’ in the appropriate scorebox.
- If your player picks up their ball on a Stableford competition, place an ‘X’ in the Pickup box on the very right-hand-side of the boxes.
- If in doubt, just write in the actual score your player has made in the correct column and let the computer work out the rest.
- When scanning scorecards, please check them, then Save them after you have checked or edited any scores. Failure to Save will not enter the scores into the system.
- Lastly – if in doubt, just ask someone.
Note that for club organised competitions in particular, digital scorecards are not currently allowed, you must have a hard copy signed by a marker.
This weekend, the men have Monthly Medal from the white tees, and the women have Centenary FMS Stableford Rnd 3.

There were only 4 twos paying $50 each, and Nett Eagles hole was #7 with 3 winners.
Pro Tip of the week - Craig Mitchell
What to do if you find yourself in between clubs.
If you think a 7 iron might not get there, take a 6 and grip down an inch and make a solid swing. You will be surprised how easy this is to do.

Midweek Mens Results – from David Williams-Jones
Monday, April 24. ANZAC Trophy
Despite a huge overnight thunderstorm that brought down two large tree boughs on the course, 58 midweek men and women combined for the annual ANZAC Trophy and enjoyed superb autumnal conditions. The midweek groups were delighted that Club Captain Phil Barlow was able to join us for the day. Equally, we were pleased that he didn't quite scoop the prizes - though it took three birdies from Julie Jones to deny him! Results:

3rd. Karen Munro & John Gilmore 66

Scotty and Heather have been in Greymouth to catch the train on his first leg of his bucket list from Greymouth to Christchurch. Today they will travel from Christchurch to Picton. Thanks to Harewood Golf for the fundraising, an amazing group of people and can't thank enough.
