Course Development – General Manager
As earlier communicated this week, we will be undertaking some course developments. As part of our health and safety requirements we will be closing holes 4 and 5 for the duration of the work. We will also be roping off and temporarily closing other holes as and when required for short periods of time while work is being completed. The Pro Shop team will be able to update you on any changes daily.
Thank you for your feedback to date and your support while we continue to develop our course.
Board of Directors
Dear Members,
As our AGM approaches, we would like to take this opportunity to inform you about clubs governance. Our Board of Directors will be going through a transition, and we are seeking individuals to join the team.
We have two board members who have reached the end of their terms and will be stepping down from their positions. Additionally, one board member will be reapplying, offering continuity and valuable experience. As a result, we are looking for new members who are passionate about our golf club and ready to contribute to its growth and success.
Serving on the board of directors is an excellent opportunity to actively shape the future of our golf club, make important decisions, and work closely with other dedicated individuals who share you love for the game. Whether you are a seasoned member or relatively new addition to our community, we encourage you to consider taking on this role.
Key responsibilities of the board members include:
- Strategic planning
- Financial Oversight
- Policy decision making
- Membership engagement
- Event Coordination
If you possess strong leadership skills, have a genuine interest in supporting our golf club’s growth, and can commit to attending regular monthly board meetings, we strongly encourage you to apply.
To express your interest in joining the board of directors, please submit a brief statement outlining your background, qualifications, and motivations for applying. Feel free to highlight any specific skills or experiences that you believe would contribute to your effectiveness in this role.
Please submit your statement to Manager@harewoodgolf.co.nz by 16 June 2023. If you have any questions or require and information, don’t hesitate to contact our current board of directors or approach the office.
Thank you for considering this opportunity.
Weekly Update – By Club Captain Phil Barlow
The finals of the men’s 4BBB was played last weekend with congratulations going to Norm McTaggart and David Ott taking it out 2/1 over Justin Cotter and Graeme Calvert. The rest of the men played 4BBB Par, and there was only 1 pair of ladies that finished on a day that was slightly drizzly and misty. As mentioned last week, the ladies 4BBB will be delayed at the moment. The course was fairly quiet compared to a usual Saturday as you would expect on such a day. Just a reminder to call in to the Pro Shop if you are not going to play so they can rearrange 4’s for those that do still want to play. This is also important as we get to winter with less tee times available.
The weather forecast his weekend looks much better and warmer at the time of writing this column and has the men playing All Irons off the yellow tees with the others playing Par from the White tees. Women this weekend have Centenary FMS Stableford Rnd 4. A reminder to the men playing All Irons that Hybrid clubs are not considered irons.
A reminder to please fix your pitch marks and divots as particularly at this time of year they are much deeper and more evident. Make the effort.

Pro Tip of the week – Undercover Pro
Practice the 3-foot putts
When you come to have a round and get there early enough to get some warming up and practice in, go to the practice green and practice the 3-foot putts. This length is one that catches many people out, especially when we have slightly speedy greens. They are long enough on a slight hill to have quite a bit of break. Get these sorted out and you could easily save 2 or 3 shots per round.
Rule of the week
Ball sitting on the side of the cup
Those that followed the PGA last weekend may have heard about a pro penalised 2 shots for leaving his ball on the edge of the cup for an extended period of time. It fell into the hole after he left it for 30 seconds. The rules say you are only allowed to leave it there for 10 seconds after you have made your way to the hole.
Upcoming Saturday golf (for full details refer to the 2023 programme).

3 June – Centenary Kings Birthday Shotgun – Stableford – 11:30 start.
