Weekly Update – By Club Captain Phil Barlow
A light winded and warm but very overcast day greeted last Saturday’s players. The ladies had FMS Stableford while the men had All Irons off the Yellow tees, with the others playing Par from the Whites. It was great to see 40 men playing the All Irons on the day. The most disappointing thing for me on the day was the number of deep divots in the fairways where little or no effort had been made to repair them. The very least players can do is replace the divot taken, but even this was not taking place. It is every players responsibility to take sand buckets with them and use them whether carrying a bag or pushing a trundler.
We are also noticing that there are a number of players not handing in their scorecards after their round. It is expected that you always hand in your card after every round of golf. Failure to do so is wasting a lot of time by the Pro Shop staff searching for your card when it is showing as missing in DotGolf.
This weekend’s competition is the Centenary Kings Birthday Shotgun starting at 11:30.
The shotgun is the last Saturday before we move to the 2 tee starts for winter on 10 June. There will be a lot of pressure on bookings for the Saturday players, so if you can’t make a booking you have on a Saturday, please contact the Pro Shop or remove your name online as soon as possible so any reserve players can be slotted in your tee booking. It is also important to play ready golf through this period and make the effort to stay with the group in front of you.

Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell
Next time you’re going to the range to hit a bucket of balls do this.
Go to the putting green and do some short game work first, then hit the bucket of balls second, because all of us have the best of intensions of doing this after the bucket of balls but it never happens.
Rule of the week - Penalty for Playing Wrong Ball (Rule 6.3c(1))
In stroke play, the player gets the general penalty (two penalty strokes) and must correct the mistake by continuing play with the original ball by playing it as it lies or taking relief under the Rules. This means you must go back and find your original ball and play it from where you find it:
- The stroke made with the wrong ball and any more strokes before the mistake is corrected (including strokes made and any additional penalty strokes solely from playing that ball) do not count.
- If the player does not correct the mistake before making a stroke to begin another hole or, for the final hole of the round, before returning their scorecard, the player is disqualified.
