Course Development Update – General Manager

Now that the tree fellers have finished their work, we now move onto the next stage. This week we will have the stump grinders from A1 on site to remove the larger stumps. All other stumps you will see left behind will be utilised for bunding.

Our greenkeepers continue to remove the black wattle trees from around holes 3 and 9 and keep the course clean from the work undertaken so that everyone can continue to enjoy their golf.

Weekly Update – By Club Captain Phil Barlow

Pack your wet weather gear for this Saturday as it is forecast to be similar to last week. Some drizzly rain through the day is to be expected. Just a reminder with tee slots hard to get, to let the Pro Shop know as soon as possible if you cannot make it, or to remove yourself from the booking online. It’s great to see a full field on a Saturday with so many of our newer members joining in. We have just passed the shortest day of the year, so the days will start getting longer, though a bit wetter and cooler for a few weeks, so dress warmly and enjoy your winter golf.

Please double down on divot repairs through this time of year as well as pitch marks and watching dragging your feet on the greens. Carrying your bag does not excuse you from carrying a sand bucket – everyone should have a one. The greens continue to baffle some, playing a great speed and having a bit of break to deal with.

The men’s Champion of Champions competition took place at Russley GC on 11 June where we had a team of 3 entered. Kerry Branson finished 3rd in the individual and the team including Andy Lee and Paul O’Neill came in 6th overall. Well done guys.

We will have a sheet up in the ProShop for those wishing to play interclub for the 3 men’s teams this year. We have entered Woodward Cup, Blank Cup and Simon Cup teams for this season and want to put forward the best teams we can. Put your name up if interested, and we will look at a trial or 2 prior to the season starting early August.

This weekend’s competition is Round 2 of the BCHP Matchplay for men with others playing Par. Please check with the Pro Shop if you won during Round 1 and have not got your tee time. The women have Centenary FMS Stableford Round 5 and Grandmothers prize.

Two’s last Saturday earned $19 each, and Nett Eagles was hole 8, and not struck, so will jackpot to this weekend.

Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell

A low driver off the tee is a great option when you’re under pressure and need to hit the fairway.

You may have seen in all pro tournaments when they need to hit a narrow fairway, or they are struggling with their swing they tee the ball low and hit a low bullet drive. A low chasing drive will always be more accurate than a high tee shot.

Rule of the week – Teeing area rules Rule 6.2b(3)

Certain Conditions in Teeing Area May Be Improved. Before making a stroke, the player may take these actions in the teeing area to improve the conditions affecting the stroke (see Rule 8.1b(8)):

  • Alter the surface of the ground in the teeing area (such as by making an indentation with a club or foot),
  • Move, bend or break grass, weeds and other natural objects that are attached or growing in the ground in the teeing area,
  • Remove or press down sand and soil in the teeing area, and
  • Remove dew, frost and water in the teeing area.

Read the full rule for penalties and when they apply.

Midweek Men Results – By David Williams-Jones

Due to the heavy rain on Monday, the Midweek Men decamped to play pool and watch the end of the US Open rather than get on the course. Despite the drizzle and an indifferent forecast, there was still some appetite for the three club (and putter) challenge that is the Fred Latham Trophy. In the end, the soggy conditions and the inevitable realisation that the right club needed was in the back of the car meant that par was a challenging target for one and all!
