Weekly Update – By Club Captain Phil Barlow
What a great day we had for the Centenary Multi-tee start last Saturday. A beautiful fine golf day with little wind – just what we all needed. A nearly capacity field of 119 managed to get through in good time for the number of players. Thank you all for making it a great day for both the Ladies Linney Trophy and the men’s Bell Mugs competitions. It was a shame that only 18 people had breakfast prior to playing. Supporting our caters is important for our club, as we have all played at clubs without them and it just isn’t the same!
For those that came along to the AGM last week, you will have seen some promising financial results along with some solid strategic initiatives regarding the course and clubrooms. These documents posted on the notice board leading to the Bar and Café.
Men’s Club Champs
Another reminder about how the upcoming men’s club champs qualifying works. With so many members, we ask that you notify the Pro Shop of 2 of the 3 qualifying Saturday rounds (Aug 5th, 12th, and 19th) that you wish to play. These dates will be strictly adhered to unless you have a legitimate reason to change one after already selecting your dates. Changes will need to be passed via the Match Committee to be considered. The top 16 of each grade will go forth to the finals matchplay. If you can please let the Pro Shop know your 3 dates by 25 July it would be appreciated so the Pro Shop can set aside tee slots.
This weekend’s competition for men is BCHP Finals, others Par. The women this week is Irish Stableford.

Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell
I think Cameron Smith is one of the great putters in Professional golf, so if your putting is not going well why not copy what he does.
- He never has a practise stroke on any length putt (The reason is he finds himself thinking about the mechanics of putting which doesn’t help him).
- He takes a long final look at the hole seeing the ball going into the hole, then he just putts trusting his instincts.
Rule of the week – When is a ball deemed to be in a bunker (Rule 12.1)
When Ball Is in Bunker
A ball is in a bunker when any part of the ball:
- Touches sand on the ground inside the edge of the bunker, or
- Is inside the edge of the bunker and rests:
- On ground where sand normally would be (such as where sand was blown or washed away by wind or water), or
- In or on a loose impediment, movable obstruction, abnormal course condition or integral object that touches sand in the bunker or is on ground where sand normally would be.
If a ball lies on soil or grass or other growing or attached natural objects inside the edge of the bunker without touching any sand, the ball is not in the bunker.
If part of the ball is both in a bunker and in another area of the course, see Rule 2.2c
