Weekly Update – By Club Captain Phil Barlow
Spring is here and so are summer tee times! The days are getting longer, and the temperatures are sneaking up. A fine day with light winds and fast greens greeted the Saturday player’s last weekend. A few sneaky 3 putts crept in with the greens appearing to be a bit faster than normal. With fine days and light breezes forecast all week, we should be in for perfect condition this weekend, fingers crossed.
The men’s Town vs Country was played at Amberley GC last Sunday, and while our representatives were all playing in the bottom half of the match play draw after the qualifying round in the morning, solid results were posted, with wins to Scott Manyweathers, Kerry Branson, and Ryan Barham, with Harry Weeds holding out with a half. James Howard also took out a win in the master’s section. The highlight was Otis Holland going into the junior’s match play as 2nd seed but winning convincingly to win the juniors overall. Unfortunately, Liam Keegan lost his match in the junior match play round. Well done to you all for flying the Harewood flag.
Interclub report
No interclub for Woodward, Blank, Simon or Pollock Cup team’s last weekend. This Sunday, Woody is playing Waitikiri at Russley, Blank has Coringa at Clearwater, Simon has Templeton at home, and Pollock is playing Waimairi Beach at home. Good luck to you all.
Presidents Cup – Tony Marriner (8th)
We were welcomed with a freezing cold and breezy sou-wester for our 10am tee start.
The team had a great start to the season, with a 4-4 half. Very good wins to Dean G, Gary G, Jock M and Brian T. Tony M, Errol H, Gill H and Kim D, all had tough matches and lost.
All the matches were played in fine spirit, thanks to Clearwater, for a great day. Clearwater course played well, lovely fairways and reasonably slick greens.
Thanks Guys, well done, our next game in two weeks vs Russley at home.
This weekend sees the start of the match play for the men’s Club Champs, with others playing Par. The women have Club Champs qualifying Rnd 2 with others playing LGU Rnd 8.

Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell
I think the below has happened to all of us at some stage during a round of golf.
Always mark your ball with the logo side up on your ball marker. When a playing partner asks you to move your marker across, always mark it with the blank side of the ball marker up. That way you will know if you haven’t moved it back once you go to replace your ball.
Rule of the week – How to correctly mark a ball on the green? (Rule 14.1a/1)
Rule 14.1a uses "right behind" and "right next to" to ensure the spot of a lifted ball is marked with sufficient accuracy for the player to replace it in the right spot.
A ball may be marked in any position around the ball so long as it is marked right next to it, and this includes placing a ball-marker in front of or to the side of the ball.
Upcoming Saturday golf (for full details refer to the 2023 programme).

Players wanted for Champion Team - Metro B
Hello members, we are looking for a few Guys keen on representing the club for the 2023/24 season. Our Season potentially starts on October the 15th and even though we have a good number of players returning from last year we need a few extra to help us retain our Canterbury Title
Looking for guys with a handicap range of 10.0 through to 22.0 or there about’ s. You Must be over 10.0 from when i select you so if you are hovering in the 9's with a couple of good cards coming off or around 24 and coming down then please get in touch if keen.
As this is a long season October through to April Next year ... we need as many keen as able.
The format is match play off the stick but our Team must have a minimum of 110.0 handicap so a lot of juggling around with everybody's handicaps fluctuating on a weekly basis
Please get in touch with Glenn Bunting (027 5624406 or glenn@premiumliquor.co.nz
Happy to answer any questions you may have prior to putting your name in the Hat.
Cheers,
Glenn
