Old Golf Clubs Wanted

The team in the pro shop are on the look out for old Drivers that you may have hidden away in your cupboards and garage. These will be used for the driving range when they are needed. These will help the club have complete sets when we have groups wanting to use our great driving range.

Thank you in advance.

Due to the forecasted weather, we are expecting tomorrow, we have decided to postpone the Wilson Demo Day.

We will update everyone once we have a confirmed date.

Stay tuned on our facebook page for reminders of all our demo days happening at the club.

Weekly Update - By Club Captain Phil Barlow

Phil Barlow – Club Captain

The heavy rain overnight on Friday opened to a cold crip day on Saturday in readiness for the Club Champs finals. The “twin round” finalists headed out early hoping to keep warm for a long day. We didn’t have a full field either with some deciding to stay at home and stay warm. This meant the day flowed quite well. Congratulations to the following champions:

Women

  • Silver: Lynn Brand 7/6 over Pam McTaggart
  • Bronze A: Diane Deuart 1 up over Di Chaney
  • Bronze B: Catherine Butts 1 up over Alison Lynch

Men

  • Senior: Sam Watkinson 4/3 over Otis Holland
  • Intermediate: Glyn Francis 8/6 over Bevan Seddon
  • Junior A: Jarrad Brown 2/1 over Alan Cowie
  • Junior B: Graeme Clarke1 up over Cook He

This weekend is Monthly Medal (Blue tees) for the men with Shootout back on now that Club Champs are over. Finals of Williamson, Thompson, and Hefford Trophies for the women, with stroke for the others. Women’s Ringers and Shootout both close this weekend.

Interclub Update

Woodward Cup (Currently 4th)

A double round at Christchurch GC on a chilly morning saw the Woody team up against Pegasus first. Josh came up against in form Oscar losing 4/3. Scott beat Zach 4/3 while James Howard came back from 4 down on the back to win 1up. Harry held on for a 2/1 win with Dan Lundt losing 4/3. Otis showing a great fight against Phil lost 1 down. Kerry won 3/2, and Ryan went from being 4 down with 7 to go rescued a half. Harewood won a close one 4 ½ to 3 ½.

Rushing from the middle of course to the first 2 holes to make our 1pm tee time, we were 30min later than the schedule. The afternoon round saw us up against Templeton. Unfortunately, not as great a performance from us here. Only Josh managed to rescue the single half point, so we are clinging on to a semi-final spot. Will need a positive result against both Christchurch and Weedons at Avondale in a week's time to make the top 4 with Russley closing in. Thanks for Terry Coleman for supporting us for the whole day.

Blank Cup (Currently 5th)

As with the Woody team, the Blank boys had a double round at Waimairi GC starting up against a lower Pegasus team. Some great wins through the team with Cameron up 7/5, Toby and Sam W up 5/4, and Brad up 3/2, Jason up 4/2, Sam M up 2/1. Phil and Liam took their matches to the 18th and 17th respectively but couldn’t convert. A great win 6/2.

The afternoon saw us up against Waimairi at home and they are a top 3 team. While we were looking at potentially a 6/2 loss, the whole team dug in for the second half turning it around to have a 4 ½ to 3 ½ win. An outstanding turnaround from Liam to go from 3 dn with 5 to go to win 2 up followed by Brad winning 6/5 headed the first points for Harewood. Sam M followed 2 up then Cameron 2/1 up. Sam W closed it out with his half to give the upset match of the day to us. A tough double header at the long Coringa against table 2nd place Clearwater and mid pack Avondale make it a battle to make the top 4, but we have beaten the top fliers in the past.

Simon Cup (Currently 3rd)

The Harewood Simon team travelled out to the country to play Greendale a new addition to the Simon cup competition.

The team came away with a 4 to 2 win and are now in 3rd place with 2 rounds to play. Good wins at the top of the order from James Anderson and Jordan Wilson. Kerry Lake and Richard Hurley added to the 4 wins to promote us the pecking order in the competition.

This week is Avondale at home at Harewood, and the following weekend for the final round with all teams at Harewood. Hopefully the home course advantage will help us to stay in the top 4 to make the semifinals.

Pollock Cup (Currently 3rd)

No interclub last week, or this weekend. Next match is 8 October.

There were 11 two’s last Saturday earning $18 each. Nett Eagles was hole 15 and was won by Errol Hume.

Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell

To improve your short putting try the famous Phil Mickelson drill.

Get 10 balls and make a four-foot circle around a hole on the practice green (a gentle sloping putt) and then work your way around the hole.

  • Work through your pre putt routine
  • If you miss one, you must start all over again.

This works if you put the time in.
