Centenary Weekend

We are only one week away from celebrating our Centenary and thank you to those who have brought tickets and volunteered their time to make this happen.

We have a full night of entertainment for those who are coming to the Gala Dinner. Communication to those attending will be sent out in the coming days.

The Shotgun field is full and for those playing, please wear your Harewood centenary shirts and club colours to embrace the special year we are celebrating.
If weather permits, we will be having the prizegiving outside with a bar and BBQ to be available. Remember those who could not make the shotgun, the course will be open for the rest of the day.

Other key points:

The clubrooms will be closed on both the Friday and Saturday in preparation for the Saturday night celebrations.

The course will be closed from 11:00am on the Friday to allow the Course team to prepare the course for the Saturday.

Coring Week

A reminder to everyone that Coring week is also a week away, starting on Monday October 16 through to Thursday 19 October. At this stage the course may be open on Friday 20th all going well. Please keep an eye out on our Facebook page for further updates on the course. It is also a great time to utilise your reciprocal cards at Waimairi and Waitikiri courses during that week. Otherwise, our driving range will be open from 9:00am on each day for those who what to have a practice.

Wilson Demo Day

We have landed on 27 October to host our Club Demo Day with Wilson. This will happen between 9:00am – 12:00pm so make sure you place this in your calendar and come down and try out the new Wilson gear.

Stay tuned on our facebook page for reminders of all our fitting days happening at the club over the summer.

Weekly Update - By Club Captain Phil Barlow

If you needed any reminder we live on a windy island in the pacific, it came last Saturday loud and clear from the south-west which is not what we are used to. And just to add insult to injury, it was only 10 deg for much of the day making conditions very tough with some very interesting club choices having to being made. That being said, there were some outstanding scores amongst the men in particular off the blue tees for Monthly Medal.

A reminder that the Centenary Shotgun is on the following Saturday (14 Oct

This weekend’s competition is Par for the men and Marlin Trophy, and others Stroke for the women.

Interclub Update

Simon Cup (Currently 5th)

The Harewood team hosted Avondale at home on Sunday. Five matches went down the 18th but unfortunately the results did not go our way, going down 4 to 2. A good win to Lochie Horne in his first year of interclub, and halves to Jordan Wilson and Richard Hurley were the points scorers for Harewood.

The result drops us down the standings to 5th with the final round this year at Harewood this Sunday against Weedons who have jumped up to third. It will be a tough match, but with a good win it will push us into the semi final round.

This weekend the Woodward Cup team is at Avondale against Christchurch and Weedons and looking good at a semi-finals chance. The Blank Cup team is at Coringa against Clearwater and Avondale with a chance at the semi’s, but a couple of their usual team out. The Pollock Cup team is at Waimaire Beach against Clearwater and hopefully holding them off to take a semi-final spot.

Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell

Advice for long bunker shots (20 to 40 metres)

My advice for long bunker shots is to use a Gap Wedge or your Pitching Wedge if you don’t have a steep lip. Open the face a little and play it the same way as you would with your sand wedge. The advantage of doing this is it’s a lot easier to get the distance because the loft is less, so you don’t have to hit the shot really hard to get the distance.

Upcoming Saturday golf (for full details refer to the 2023 programme).

7 Oct – Men: Par. Women: Marlin Trophy, and others Stroke.

14 Oct – Harewood Centenary Shotgun – 9:30 tee off. Note this is different to the programme, there will only be a single shotgun competition.

Course closed for coring – Mon 16 – Fri 20 Oct.

21 Oct – Cancer Charities best 3 of 4 teams Stableford. Note this is different to the programme, this is instead of a shotgun.

28 Oct – Men: Ashby Mugs – combined Stableford. Women: 4BBB.

29 Oct – Women’s AllPrint Shootout.

4 Nov – Men: Monthly Medal (Blue tees). Women: International Stableford.

Enjoy your golf.

Midweek Men Results - By David Williams-Jones

An interesting golfing week that reminded one of the 80's group: Earth, Wind and Fire.

Monday, October 2nd. Waitikiri visit.

Despite the gale, we welcomed 19 players from Waitikiri. The team game was very close with Harewood just getting over the line by all of 0.2 of a Stableford point!
