Club News – General Manager
New staff member for Harewood Golf Club
I am happy to announce that we will have a new member of the Greenkeeping team, Jamie Buttrey. Jamie has for the past 10 years been living in Hanmer and working as a greenkeeper at the Hanmer Springs Golf Club. Since 2020 he has been the Head Superintendent. Before arriving in New Zealand, he also worked on and completed his apprenticeship as a greenkeeper in the UK. He is looking for his next challenge and will bring a wealth of knowledge with him and a new perspective to the team.
I am sure you will welcome Jamie when he starts on Monday.
Tee Bookings
As we are heading into the summer season, we will be hosting visiting groups, corporate golf days and will be busier in general. We will all want to get out and play golf and make the most of the good weather.
I encourage you all to either go online or call the Pro Shop ahead of time so to can guarantee to get on the course. If you aren’t able to do either of these, please make sure you check in at the Pro Shop so they can start you off on the right tee if there is one available on the day.
Thank you.
Weekly Update - By Club Captain Phil Barlow
Summer is officially here this weekend, and some of the temperatures over the last few days are getting up there. Last Saturday was fairly sunny with a light breeze just to keep temperatures down. The ladies had a good field for their closing day (see report below), while the men had an Irish Stableford round.
Sunday was the men’s Allprint Shootout and was played in probably the most sedate conditions seen this year. A warm windless day saw the large group move along fairly quickly, with very few playoffs required, though a nett par was no guarantee not to be in one. The day was played in great spirit and enjoyed by all. Terry Coleman took out the day with some very consistent golf. A big thanks to Bruce Maetzig for running the day, and to Otis, Lochie, and Barry for helping all day with spotting the shots in the rough – they were needed!
A reminder that the Christmas Shotguns will go forward as per the programme, so please contact the Pro Shop if you wish to play in one of them, as it is a popular day in the calendar. We will be reprogramming the Centenary shotgun in the 2024 calendar.
The Twilight series has one round left (5 Dec), so have a hit in the evening, bring some friends and have a catch up afterwards. Let the Pro Shop know if you are interested. There are meals available after your round too! Tee off is 5:30pm.
This weekend, the men Monthly Medal finals and Par for the others. The women Round 1 of their Summer Cup.

Note that the men’s results are different to the ones read out provisionally on Saturday due to a DotGolf software issue. The are now corrected as above.
There were 6 2’s last Saturday earning $40 each, and the Nett Eagles was not struck so will jackpot.
Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell
This week’s tip is on long-range putting.
Never think about how hard to hit a long range putt – have a practise stroke looking at the hole and try to feel the distances in your rehearsal stroke – then aim and trust your feel.
