Weekly Update - By Club Captain Phil Barlow
Counting down to Christmas as the temperatures warm a little, we had comfortable conditions for Club Day last Saturday. The rough is just starting to thin out a little in parts which will make some members happy. The field moved well with the ladies having a Stableford round and the men having the Monthly Medal finals with others playing Par. Alan Dickson had the best nett round (69) of the finals and so wins the Top Dog carpark and keeps it until the first Monthly Medal of 2024.
The Christmas Hamper shotguns are on this weekend and are always a favourite amongst members, so if you are, we are expecting up to 26 degrees so look after yourself.
There were 2 interclub events last Sunday. The Pressies held off Coringa 5-3 at Coringa with a close match from start to finish. Also at Coringa was the Metro A team, though they couldn’t match the Pressies result going down 2 ½ to 5 ½ against Coringa. Results were close however with a few 2/1 losses. The Pressies are currently sitting 8th of 14 and Metro A are 5th of 10.
The big golf news this week is the announcement by R & A and USGA that the golf ball design will be changing to pull back distances hit. Read more about it here On the DP World Tour website.

There were 9 2’s last Saturday earning $25 each, and the Nett Eagles was hole 15 and not struck so will jackpot.
Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell
Struggling to get your rounds off to a good start?
I see so many golfers arrive right before their round, rush to the first tee and make a poor first swing! Plan to arrive at the course 15 minutes earlier than usual and hit 25 balls on the driving range. You’ll be surprised how much of an effect a small warm-up can have on your scores.
Upcoming golf (for full details refer to the 2023 programme).
Sat 9 Dec – Centenary Xmas Shotgun Closing Day – 8:00am and 12:30pm starts.
Sat 16 Dec – Men: Team Stableford – 3 of 4 count. Women: Summer Cup Rnd 2 Stableford.
Sat 23 Dec – Men: Summer Cup Rnd 1. Women: Summer Cup Rnd 3.
Sat 30 Dec – Men: Summer Cup Rnd 2. Women: Summer Cup Rnd 4.
Sat 6 Jan – Men: Summer Cup Rnd 3. Women: Summer Cup Rnd 5.

9 Hole Ladies Results – By Kay Worley
Wednesday 6th December
For our Closing Day and the final competition for this year we held an Ambrose
Game and the winners were: Robyn, Sue and Kay
Our Christmas function followed, and we were pleased to be graced by former members for the occasion. Following lunch, it was nice to be able to share a Christmas cake together. We are looking forward to being back in the New Year for the 2024 competition and wishing everyone a happy festive Christmas and many good golfing days ahead.
Midweek Men Results - By David Williams-Jones
The playing year culminated with the Christmas Hamper Day. A delayed start due to the rain and persistent drizzle didn't dampen the social occasion as cards, pool and generally setting the world to right took place before a dry, nine-hole game that was a precursor to a full lunch and raffle prizes for all.
The Hamper Day was also the final reveal for the 'Top 10' competition. This competition looked at all of the 78 qualifying individual games played throughout 2023 and recorded the ten best Stableford scores for each participant to identify the most consistently good player of the year. For most of the year, Bruce Gillespie (18 handicap) led the pack only to be overtaken in the last few weeks by Chris Straker (15 handicap). Chris would have taken home the engraved trophy (if the engraver hadn't broken his hip!) but still received the $100 first prize. Bruce had to console himself by cleaning out the raffle as well as getting his $60 prize. Congratulations to all of the Top 10 players (and thanks to Ray Polson for keeping track of it all:
1st Chris Straker 393 Stableford points
2nd Bruce Gillespie 390 points
3rd Bruce Chalken 385 points
