Club Captain - Phil Barlow
You know it’s a strong Nor ’wester when the jets are taking off on the short runway, and to add to that it was another day of over 30 degrees to greet the Saturday golf. Last Saturday was the end of Summer Cup for the men with a solid finish by Tim Wenmoth to take it out by only 2 stableford points.
We saw another great weekend of golf for Kiwi’s with Lydia Ko taking out the Tournament of Champions at Lake Nona, and Steve Alker also winning his first appearance of the year at Hualalai GC in Hawaii.
Just in case you were unaware, there has been a couple of small changes in the way that golf handicaps are calculated worldwide. For more information, take a look at the article on the R & A site here.
A couple of small reminders for the start of 2024 – please observe the club dress standard on and off the course. A “good” standard of dress is expected. Please also note that if by any chance you do have to have young children with you in a cart on the course, they must remain in the cart at all times for their own safety, and not be running around on the course.
This weekend sees the club start the year proper with competitions with Stableford for the men, and Opening day for the women with all teeing off from 11:30am with several trophies up for grabs (see the latest programme for details). It is also the start of Shootout for 2024 for both men ($50) and women ($40).
A reminder the latest programme for the year is out and available at the Pro Shop, so grab a copy and stay ahead of what is coming up, as well as keeping an eye out here at Woodlands Word.
Next week Sat 3 Feb) is the club Opening Day for the club with the usual two shotgun starts on the day. Tee times are 8:00am and 12:30pm so let the Pro Shop know your preference and get in as soon as you can. There will be the usual Stableford prizes as well as the novelty closest to pins, straightest drives etc. Entry fee is $20 for everyone, and that includes 2’s and Nett Eagle draws for each session.
