General Manager - Richard Attwood
Last Friday we had the privilege to host the Annual Presidents, Secretaries and Club Captains Day hosted by Canterbury Golf. A great turn out with 92 players in the field with 36 Club Captains, 23 Presidents and 15 Secretaires/Club Managers. The club was well represented and all four came away with the following results on thew day.
Teams Competition: 3rd Stableford David Williams – Jones and Greg Hedges
Captains Trophy: 3rd Stableford Phil Barlow and Lesley Hedges.
This was followed by a great dinner from G&T Catering and an updated from GolfNZ’ s new CEO Jeff Latch and Canterbury Golfs new President, Dion Kerr.
Volunteers Working Bee - Wednesday 21 February at 9:00am
Having already had a bit of a garden tidy up this year in the gardens, would be great to finish off some areas and a tidy up under some of the trees of branches and cones. Look forward to seeing you.
Thanks Julie Jones.
Club Captain - Phil Barlow
First up – apologies for duplicating the results for the men’s Div 2 for the shotguns on opening day. The afternoon men’s Div 2 winners were:
- John Gold 39pts
- Kim Dale 38 pts
- Mike Stanley 36pts
Well done guys!
Last weekend was All Irons for the ladies with others playing Stroke, while the men had the first round of Monthly Medal with all off the blue tees. We were a bit lucky with the weather with the rain arriving just after the Saturday competition was completed.
Interclub Update
The Metro A men’s team had a long-awaited win last weekend 6 ½ - 1 ½ against Bottle Lake, so some relief there. The Metro B team is now leading the competition with a 5 ½ - 2 ½ win over Avondale and the Presidents team taking out Hagley 5-3, so some solid results for the weekend.
The women’s interclub teams kicked off last weekend as well, with the Women’s Weekend Zone 1 team going down 3-1 against Everglades and Zone 2 also going down 3-1 against Clearwater, so both unlucky but with plenty of matches in hand.
We also have had one of our regular Saturday ladies’ players in Hyeza Kim selected to help officiate at the New Zealand Open this year. Congratulations on being chosen Hyeza, an exciting move forward for your refereeing.
A reminder about the QR code on a stick on the women’s 8th tee. This is so you can order food and drinks in advance ready for delivery at the 10th hole. You may have also seen the BBQ Shack setup behind the driving range on a Saturday as well. Check it out on the weekend.
Next week’s competitions are 4BBB Qual Rnd 2 for the men, others Stableford, and for the women, FMS Stableford Rnd 1.

Tip of the week – Undercover pro
Approach shot strategy.
One of the biggest mistakes amateur golfers make is being overly aggressive and aiming straight at a pin for their approach shot. This leads to the risk of short siding yourself, having to play difficult pitch shots and bringing in the risk of double bogeys.
The middle of the green with a mid to short iron is always a good target and you then give yourself a chance of a birdie (or nett birdie) putt.
