Clubhouse Development
As you arrive at Harewood you will see a distinct change in the appearance of the clubhouse, with the first coat of paint on the walls. The team at PD Painters are moving at a quick pace around the club. It feels as though every corner I go around there is a painter in front of me. Next week the painters will leave the site and will come back once the builders have completed their work and repairs around the building.
Junior Match Play Interclub Competition
For the first time in 12 years Harewood will have a junior team represent the club on Sunday morning at Waimairi Beach. We have a group of six eager players who I had the pleasure of meeting with their parents early this week. They will be playing over the next 2 months around the city including Harewood on Sunday 21st April.
We have a great group of up and coming players in the club thanks to the efforts of Wayne Davies and supported by Robert Newton on Sunday mornings at the junior coaching sessions. We are looking to enter more teams later in the year in the Junior foursome competition so if you have a young one keen on golf make sure they come down on Sunday mornings and take part in these sessions.
Club Update – Doug Claridge
The weather cleared on Saturday morning from heavy overcast to a warm afternoon with little wind to create great conditions for golf. The course is looking great, it is noticeable the number of unfilled divots and pitch marks on the fairways and on the greens. Please repair your divots on the fairways and pitch marks on the greens. There was some good scoring across the grades playing on the black, blue and white tees, with all players in the top across the grades playing under par.
This weekend is the first round of the Harewood 4BBB competition for the men and ladies. Those that have qualified would have been sent a tee time from the pro shop in the last week. The match play rounds are off your handicap of the day. The lowest handicap in the group plays oof scratch, others play off the resulting difference. The second round of the Harewood 4BBB is scheduled for the 23rd of March. Following completion of matches (there has been one match deferred to Sunday) the draw and tee times will be organized by the Pro-shop, and you will be advised of your tee time. If you are not able to play on the scheduled day, the match must be played before the next round and a date met by mutual agreement by your opposition and approval of the Pro-shop / Club captain. The 3rd round is scheduled for the 13th of April.
The following weekend shotgun is in the programme. There is a choice of an 8.00am or 12.30 am tee off times. The Pro shop is taking entries. It is a combined Stableford competition in mixed pairs.

Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell
All great putters are great at “Green Reading”.
So, having said that here’s this week’s Tip.
Before you get on the putting surface start reading your putt, a lot of the time you can get a better read than when you are closer to your ball.

Jackpot winner: Gavin Rae who pocketed $82 and probably has to go professional as a result.
March 4th, Lamb& Hayward Trophy
The wind provided an additional challenge – especially on the greens - to normal but some good scoring. Especially from our overall Lamb & Hayward Champion, Alistair Christie who is in the midst of a purple patch and a massive handicap cut.
