Clubhouse and Course Development
Today the G & T Team moved back into the kitchen. The Woodlands Lounge will be open again and with hot chips and wedges for those who have missed them over the last few weeks. Make sure you come in and see the new kitchen and say hi to the team.
The tree work finished today, so Wood’n’Tree will no longer be on the course. We will be waiting for the next team to start taking away the slash in the coming weeks.
Mounding has continued and the team are making some good progress. They will be on course over the next week and making further improvements.
Club Captain Update – Phil Barlow
The course looked a bit different for players last Saturday and will look different again this Saturday with tree removal and mounding taking place. The weather gods were kind to us – with light winds and sun for the afternoon players after the fog had cleared for the early starters.
The men played off the Blue tees and with 125+ players in the field the grades were split 3 ways. It is noticeable how busy the course is with the members playing in the Saturday competition in the morning, and generally a busy busty afternoon of green fee players following. With this in mind, and as we move into the winter months and softer ground, repairing of divots (your own and others!) becomes it important. There are plenty of sand buckets available at the first tee, so not carrying one is not an excuse for not repairing your divots.
Congratulations to Jason Strachan who had a hole in one on the par 3 15th on Saturday off the blues.
Course works
The main holes affected by works at the moment are: 4,5,9,13 and 14. Please treat all uneven and damaged ground and tree slash piles as GUR and take a drop at the closest relief point on undisturbed ground at no penalty. The entry to the club will be all but completed and the renovated kitchen will be open again and ready for your patronage this weekend.
METRO B Interclub Final
Our Metro B Team had their Final on Sunday against Bottle Lake. They were chasing the back-to-back dream but unfortunately came across a stubborn Bottle Lake team that hit a few less trees than us. The end result didn't really show how close it was as we went down 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 with 3 matches that could have gone either way over the last few holes.
The team was well managed by Glenn Bunting, and he was confident of another good showing this season as it was proven making the final. Glenn would like to thank all the players (20 in total) that represented the club over the season. I understand that we had a few new members play interclub for the first time for Harewood GC. He would also like to mention a few stand outs that made up the backbone of the team this season. Nick Clark (5 wins, 2 halves, and 1 loss), Chris Straker (4 wins, 2 halves, and 1 loss), Bevan Seddon (3 wins, 1 loss) and Dave Carroll (4 wins 3 loses). Congratulations guys for a great season.
For the men members, we have the BCHP singles Match play qualifying coming up next weekend. If you qualify in the top 16 any of the grades, you will have Match play rounds from your current handicap. This starts in earnest after we go to dual tee start for winter, so have a go as it’s a good way to get a guaranteed tee spot during the shorter days. It also leads in to and good practice for the Canterbury interclub season which starts in August, so have a think about whether you would like to have a go at that if you are on about a 10 or less handicap – we are interested!
This Saturday sees the men playing Monthly Medal all from the white tees, while the women have FMS Stableford round 3.

Again, another gorgeous Autumn Day to greet a combined group of over 50 players who created a great buzz around the course and the clubhouse. But they also took time to remember and consider. A particular that you to Brian Blazey and Simon Hubble for creating the Anzac display that provided a suitable backdrop for the event.
