Club Updates - Richard Attwood

Club Announcement

We are excited to announce that The Harewood Golf Club will be Co-Hosting the 2024 New Zealand Interprovincials between 1 – 6 December 2024 with Russley. We will provide further updates during the year. Make you mark it down on your calendar to come along and see some of the top Golfers in New Zealand. A call for volunteers during that week will come out in the coming months.

As a result of hosting the 2024 New Zealand Interprovincials we will also be co-hosting the 2024 South Island Interprovincials in October.

Harewood Golf Club AGM

Another year will soon be upon us which means we will be holding our AGM on Thursday 18 July. We will be sending out a notice of the AGM as well as looking for new members for the Board. Please keep an eye out for AGM communications over the next week.

Course Update

Only one tree stump to go on the 12th and Canterbury Wood chipping onsite today, marks the last major stage on the course for this side of winter. Both contractors and greenkeepers staff have been busy at work to clear the course for everyone’s enjoyment.

Club Captain Update – Phil Barlow

The frosts have started, so if you book in prior to 10am on a day that is looking like a frost, call the Pro Shop in advance just to make sure the course is open for your tee time.

The finals of the Harewood 4BBB for both men and women took place last Saturday. Congratulations go to Jill O’Neill and Jo McNicholl for their win over Lesley Hedges and Janet O’Brien, and to Nathan Low and Stephen Harrison over Barry Coleman and Guy Chambers.

Make sure you get your name in for the Kings Birthday Shotgun. It is a single round on the day and tees off at 11:30 on Saturday 1 June, and will be limited to about 120 players. Call the Pro shop to book a slot. Note there is a limit of 2 people to be booked at any one time, so we all get to mix it up and maybe meet some of the newer members.

A reminder also that Saturday 8 June is when we move to winter tee times with 2 tee starts taking place from 10am.

This weekend sees All Irons off the yellow tees for men (note that hybrids do not count as an iron, but driving irons do), with others not playing just irons having a Par round from the whites. The women’s match for the day is FMS Stableford Rnd 4.

Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell

Club selection in cold wet and winter conditions

I think a lot of golfers know this, but they think of the club they normally hit in warmer conditions.

So, having said that, next time it could well be a 7 iron when you might have hit 9 from the same place in summer.

Upcoming golf (for full details refer to the 2024 programme – copies available at the Pro Shop).

Sat 25 May – Men: All irons (Yellow tees), Others Par (White tees). Women: FMS Stableford Rnd 4.

Sat 1 June – Kings Birthday Shotgun Stableford (mixed) – 11:30 start. Women also Linney Trophy.

Sat 8 June – Change to winter tee times. Men: Monthly Medal (White tees). Women: LGU Rnd 5, Harewood Cup Rnd 3, Putting, Qualifying Williamson & Thompson trophies.

Sat 15 June – Men: BCHP Match Play Rnd 1, others Stableford. Women: Finals Buck, Vaile, Dutton & Coker trophies. Others Canadian Foursomes.

Sat 22 June – Men: BCHP Match Play Rnd 2, others Par. Women: FMS Stableford Rnd 5 and Grandmothers’ Prize.

Enjoy your golf.

Mid-Week Men’s Results – David Williams-Jones

Monday 20 May

Stroke. Combined pairs with PGA Championship, 4th round.

A fun way to enliven a stroke round on an otherwise dull and dismal day. It also meant that the final result was not clear until the very end as the pros completed their final round at Valhalla.

1st     Barry Crowther & Dustin Johnson                 137 strokes

2nd    David Lin & Bob MacIntyre                             139

3rd     Dennis Longdon & Justin Thomas                 140

4th     Jos Steetskamp & Victor Hovland                 141

5th     Chris Straker & Bryson DeChambeau           141

It was a shame that Dennis Morgan was let down by Jordan Spieth but he still received a consolation prize for his individual net 69. Dave Lin carded the same score but lost on count back.

Thursday 23rd May

Ideal day for a quick round of Ambrose and a return to the clubhouse!
