General Manager Update

Make a difference and be a board member at the Harewood Golf Club.

A board plays a crucial role in guiding the club's strategic direction, managing its finances, setting policies, representing members' interests, managing risks, engaging the community, ensuring compliance, and providing leadership and oversight to club management.

Club Captain: We are on the lookout for Club Captain to take the club forward. Phil Barlow has done a fantastic job for the club, but his time has come to an end and will not be continuing in this role. If you feel you can provide leadership to the club, please consider this role.

If you are interested in being a board member or the club captain, please make sure you have the official form completed and given to the office team or slide it under the office door by this Sunday night. The form can be found under the notice board in the foyer in the clubrooms.

Club Captain Update – Phil Barlow

The first of this year’s winter 2-tee starts went well. As I wasn’t playing last weekend, I had a bit of a cart drive on-course visiting a few of the groups to see how it was flowing and everybody seemed happy with speed of play, so thanks to you all for making the effort and having patience. It is a hard time of year with heavier ground and the 2-tee starts meaning we all must keep good pace of play.

The fields for 2 tees start are full and fill up within minutes of opening on a Friday morning at 7am, 8 days before. If you are booked in, and are not going to play, please advise the pro- shop sooner rather than later of your withdrawal so they can fill the spot that you have made vacant.

A reminder there is a sheet posted in the Pro Shop for men interested in playing interclub for the 3 men’s grades (Woodward Cup, Blank Cup, and Simon Cup). If you are on a single figure handicap, and want to have a go, we invite you to add your details to the list as we are looking for players to represent our club. If you want to find out more about the competitions, send me a txt (Phil Barlow 021 488 993) or ask the Pro Shop for info.

Well done to the Harewood team of Sam Watkinson, Glyn Francis and Jarrad Brown who played in the Canterbury Golf Champion of Champions tournament at Rangiora and finished second behind Clearwater in the Gross Stableford competition.

This weekend is: Men: BCHP Match Play Rnd 1, others Stableford. Women: Buck, Vaile, Dutton & Coker trophies played as a stroke round.

Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell

This week’s Pro Tip is about chipping in winter conditions.

Because the fringes are muddy and wet when the situation lets you land the ball 2 metres on the green and let the ball run to the hole.  By landing on the green you will get a much more consistent response.
