Club Captain Update – Phil Barlow
The weather held up nicely last Saturday and the first round of the men’s BCHP has been completed with tee times posted for round 2. The rain this week will certainly soften up the course a little with the cold temperatures we are also having. Please remember while the winter tee times are limited to call or cancel your tee time if you can’t make it on a Saturday so others can take your place.
A couple of course considerations to note as well. Please do not flick the ball out of a cup with the toe of your putter, as you will damage the hole. If you can’t bend down to retrieve your ball, purchase a ball grabber that fits on the top of your putter grip from the Pro Shop. The other thing particularly to be careful of in winter, is to not drag your feet on the green. The grass will not grow for a few weeks, so the drag marks will remain as green damage.
The AGM will take place this year on Thursday 18 July at 7PM at the club. Come along to hear how the club has gone over the last 12 months. There are 2 Board places to be fulfilled as well as the Club Captain role. If you believe you can help add value to the club and are willing to help in one of these positions, please contact Richard at the office.
A reminder we are still taking names of those interested in playing interclub for the club. If you are on a single figure handicap, and want to have a go, we invite you to add your details to the list in the Pro Shop. There will be trials coming up in the next few weeks. If you want to find out more about the competitions, send me a txt (Phil Barlow 021 488 993) or ask the Pro Shop for info.
For those who may have a green golf ball basket from the driving range we ask that you bring these back to the Pro Shop so that others can use these.
This weekend is: Men: BCHP Match Play Rnd 2, others Par. Women: FMS Stableford Rnd 5 and Grandmothers prize.

There were 10 2’s on Saturday with Cameron Powell picking up 2 of them. Nett Eagles was hole 10 with 3 winners sharing $76.
Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell
After watching the US Open this week, it really confirmed what I’ve always thought, and have tried to do especially on greens running at 13 – 14 on the stimp meter.
When I am putting from long range, and want to take 2 putts, think about where you would like your second putt to be from. For me, I would like it to be an uphill putt as opposed to a downhill putt, it is way easier to make.
Rule of the week – Alternative to Stroke and Distance for Lost Ball or Ball Out of Bounds (Local Rule E5)
This is mainly for the benefit of newer club members, but also a reminder for those that are not so new.
Some golf clubs both here and overseas have implemented what is known as “Local rule E5” for lost or out of bounds balls. This allows 2 penalty shots to be added, and placement of a ball near the fairway and no closer to the hole, rather than having to replay your shot. Harewood has not implemented this local rule. Any local rules are printed on your card, and any temporary rules, such as the unmarked GUR while the trees are being removed, should be on the noticeboard across from the Pro Shop by the walkway to the 10th tee.
