Member Updates – Richard Attwood
AGM
A couple of points from the AGM last week.
- We have an interim Club Captain as we have had no one step up to take over from Phil Barlow. If you think you have the skills and desire to take on this role, please contact me or drop into the office for a chat. I would hope that out of the 800 plus members we have that we would have someone for fill the role, if not only for a year.
- I have listed below the 2024/25 Subscriptions. You will all receive communication in due course regarding payments. For those who need to pay the balance of this year’s subs please pay these ASAP. Going into the 2024/25 membership year, we ask that you finalise your arrangements with the office team by the end of September. The options are to pay your subs in full or to set up monthly payments. As you will understand there is a lot of work required to get these underway and your membership cards out to you.

Club Captain Update – Phil Barlow
Winter certainly visited the course on Saturday with overcast, foggy weather with little wind, and claggy wet muddy conditions underfoot. The trundlers certainly got pretty boggy wheels on the day. It was great to see Richard, our General Manager, out at the course just observing how the day was going.
The men’s finals of the BCHP Matchplay were played last weekend with the following results:
Blank: Ruben Carson won over Aidan Christie 4/3
Captains: Jarrad Brown won over Peter Chadwick on 19th hole
Harewood: Tim Wenmoth won over William Meates 2/1
Presidents: Gary Charmley won over Liam Wilkie 3/2
Congratulations to the winners in one of our key competitions for the year for the men.
I negated to mention an important hole in one from the Saturday previous. Joe Woods aced the 6th in fashion and was heard around the course with yells of celebration. Well done. I also got to witness a great 2 on the 10th by Sam Watkinson. Obviously both great shots, so well-done guys.
A reminder the men’s qualifying rounds for club champs are starting only a week away, so nominate the 2 of 3 qualifying days that you wish to play and contact the Pro Shop with your preferred dates to play the qualifiers. Remember, if the course is open, you are expected to play on your nominated days. Please check the dates of the following match play to ensure your availability to reduce defaulting should you qualify.
This weekend’s club competitions are: Men: Monthly Medal (White tees). Women: Hidden Holes Stableford.

There were 13 2’s on Saturday paying $18 each. Nett Eagles was not struck, so is jackpotting.
Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell
In recent years Ping Golf have done some analysis with their high-tech cameras on what happens when you have a dollop of mud on your ball.
Believe it or not if the mud is on the right of the ball it will fly to the left, the opposite happens if the mud is on the left side of the ball it will fly to the right.
So next time you’re in the rough and you have a mud ball – follow my advice and aim your shot accordingly.

SWEET SPOT - NEW GOLF BOOK
Authors: Michael Donaldson and Phil Hamilton
Harewood member Phil Hamilton has just released a book, written with renowned author Michael Donaldson Sweet Spot - 36 Iconic Golf Courses that Celebrate the Best of New Zealand.
Harewood features prominently in this beautiful new book. Its two volumes, North Island and South Island, are presented in a unique slipcase and contains intricate course maps, lively course descriptions, and detailed histories of New Zealand's best courses.
As Greg Turner notes in his foreword, Michael and Phil "have done a great job of providing an informative stroll around New Zealand's golf landscape, and, when coupled with such insightful photography and historical context, the outcome is a real treat".
Previously, Michael co-authored Steve Williams' autobiography Out of the Rough and wrote the early years of Lydia Ko's biography Portrait of a Teen Golf Sensation.
You can buy this wonderful book online at https://sweetspotgolfbook.com/ (and get 10% off by using the code HAREWOOD10 at checkout).
